Sevenoaks School Aisher Boarding House

‘The Birthplace of British Cinema’ - The space was built as a theatre for optical demonstrations as part of the Royal Polytechnic. It was where the Lumière brothers showed the first film to a British Audience. The space is now part of the University of Westminster. The restoration created a 250-seat public cinema and heritage destination which connects its rich history with current cinema production

Sevenoaks School Aisher House

Completion: 2019
Location: Sevenoaks, Kent

This new 60-bed boarding house sits on a lawn beside a Victorian villa (also now a boarding house) and echoes its appearance. Buff coloured hung tile, white metal window surrounds, pergolas and hand-made bricks visually connect new and old buildings. The house is planned as three linked pavilions, each with rooms grouped around top-lit social spaces. A cross-laminated timber structure, high levels of insulation, heat pumps and heat recovery ventilation achieves near Passivhaus environmental standards.
