Sevenoaks School Classics Mural

Tim Ronalds Architects were selected by Southwark Council to create a new Pupil Referral Unit, whilst the existing school remained in use at the centre of the site.  The aim of the design was to create a calm, light and optimistic space with excellent acoustics for teaching.  The rich material pallet enhances the nurturing and domestic quality of the spaces.

Sevenoaks School Classics Mural

Completion: 2019
Location: Sevenoaks, Kent

We have been master planning the sequential development of Sevenoaks School since 2005. One step involved moving the classics department into an interim home in the old biology building. The clients’ brief was to recreate the Temple of Zeus at Olympia, Greece on the existing timber clad pre-fab classroom façade. The drawing is taken from a portion of Candace H. Smith’s drawing “The sculptural program and a reconstruction of the pediments” of the Temple of Zeus at Olympia, which appeared originally in Greek Sculpture, 1990, by Andrew Stewart, fig 263. For this project we worked with the graphic designer and sign painter Sean Thomas.
