The Circus Space

The Circus Space is the UK's premier circus training school, offering degree level courses in circus skills. The third phase of its development in Hoxton, East London, builds a Creation & Acrobatic Studio and several start-up workspaces for performers. Technical shortcomings of the Combustion Chamber are overcome so that the potential of its amazing volume is realised.

Circus Space, The National Centre for Circus Arts

Completion: 2006
Location: London

Circus Space, now The National Centre for Circus Arts, is the UK’s premier circus training school, offering degree level courses to students from all over the world.  It occupies what was a Victorian power station in Hoxton, East London.  Tim Ronalds Architects was responsible for the third phase of its development. We completed the Combustion Chamber, a spectacular trapeze and performance studio, and two new studio buildings to complete the complex. One contains a Creation Studio, where performers develop new work, and start-up workspaces for associated companies. The other provides an acrobatic studio, rehearsal and foyer spaces which connect the whole.

As a client we presented a range of circus specific needs which Tim and his team responded to with clever, bespoke solutions which were always cost effective.
