Hastings Stade

Tim Ronalds Architects were selected by Hastings Borough Council to create a new public space, community facilities and cafe beside Hastings historic fishing beach and net shops. The design draws its inspiration from the forms of the beach and fishing infrastructure, restoring the link between the beach and Hastings Old Town. Conceived with the new Jerwood Gallery, the development is a vital part of Hastings' regeneration strategy.

Hastings Stade

Completion: 2011
Location: Hastings, East Sussex

The Stade is that wonderful section of Hastings seafront where the fishing boats are winched up onto the shingle to land their catch. Tim Ronalds Architects was chosen by Hastings Borough Council to create a new public events space, a café, public facilities and a community building. The new buildings echo the form and materials of the historic net shops, where fishing nets and gear were stored on the beach. The project was a vital part of Hastings’ regeneration strategy and links together the seafront, fishing fleet, the Old Town and the new Jerwood Gallery.
